Privacy Policy

Effective / Last Updated: October 12, 2026

Information You Provide

When you make a purchase, we collect the information necessary to complete it: your email address for every purchase, and — for furniture orders, when furniture purchasing is available — your name, phone number, and delivery address if you choose white-glove delivery.

When you submit an inquiry through our Inquire page, we collect the name, email address, message, and any other details you choose to include.

When you create an account to access your purchased digital guide, we collect the information provided through our authentication provider, Clerk — typically your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the basic profile information Google shares as part of that sign-in.

Payment Processing

All payments are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. We do not directly receive, process, or store your complete credit or debit card number, card verification code, or other full payment card details — those are handled entirely by Stripe in accordance with its own privacy policy and security standards. We receive confirmation that a payment succeeded, along with limited transaction details (such as the amount, the product purchased, and the email address you provided at checkout) needed to fulfill your order.

Digital Product Access

After a successful purchase of a digital guide (The Material Atlas, The Mid-Century Detective, The Field Kit, or the Complete Buyer's Bundle), we record a durable entitlement (tied to your purchase, not to any account requirement) so that you can access it — as an immediate download after purchase, and later through your account if you choose to create one with the same email address used at checkout. Guide content is delivered through protected, non-public storage; access requires a verified purchase.

If you create an account and read a guide using our online reader, we save your current page so you can resume where you left off. This reading-progress record is tied to your account and is never visible to any other customer.

Furniture Purchases

When furniture purchasing is available and you complete a furniture order, we record the order details necessary to fulfill it: the item(s) purchased, price, delivery method, delivery address (for white-glove delivery), and your contact information, so that we can coordinate pickup or delivery and provide order updates.

Email Marketing Signup

If you voluntarily join The LBD Field Notes — through the signup popup, the footer, or a similar offer such as 10% off digital products — we collect your email address. Your subscription status and where you signed up (for example, the popup or the footer) may be stored in our database, and your address may be synced to our email service provider, Resend, for marketing email delivery.

We use this information to send the promised discount code and, going forward, occasional LBD Restoration marketing and educational emails — furniture knowledge, buying guidance, restoration notes, new vintage arrivals, and new field guides. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link included in every marketing email. We do not sell your email address or any other personal information.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our authentication provider, Clerk, uses cookies that are necessary for signing in and keeping you signed in; these are not used for advertising and cannot be declined while remaining signed in.

We use Google Analytics 4, the Meta Pixel and the TikTok Pixel to understand site usage and measure the effectiveness of our advertising. For most visitors these load when you visit the site and may set analytics and advertising cookies in your browser. Visitors in Europe (including the UK and Ireland) are asked first, and nothing loads unless they accept. You can block or delete these cookies at any time through your browser's settings, or limit ad tracking through the privacy settings of Meta, TikTok and Google.

We also use Meta's Conversions API and TikTok's Events API to share certain events (such as a completed purchase or a submitted inquiry) directly with Meta and TikTok from our servers, to improve the reliability of ad measurement. Where this includes your email address or phone number, that information is cryptographically hashed (not sent in plain, readable form) before being shared, consistent with each platform's requirements. We do not share full names, physical addresses, payment details, or the contents of inquiry messages with Google, Meta or TikTok.

Third-Party Service Providers

We rely on the following third-party service providers to operate this website, each of which processes information as necessary to provide its service to us:

Stripe — payment processing. Clerk — customer authentication and account management. Supabase — application database (orders, entitlements, reading progress, email subscriber records). Vercel — website hosting and infrastructure, including private storage for protected digital guides. Resend — transactional email delivery (purchase confirmations, order notifications, inquiry delivery) and, for visitors who opt in, marketing email delivery (The LBD Field Notes). Google Analytics, Meta (Pixel and Conversions API) and TikTok (Pixel and Events API) — analytics and advertising measurement, as described above.

Each of these providers has its own privacy practices governing the information it processes on our behalf.

How We Use Information

We use the information described above to: process and fulfill purchases; provide access to purchased digital content; communicate with you about your order or inquiry; maintain the security and proper functioning of the website; and measure and improve our advertising and understand how the site is used.

We do not sell your personal information.

Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures appropriate to the nature of the information involved, including relying on reputable third-party providers (Stripe, Clerk, Supabase, Vercel) that maintain their own security programs, restricting access to customer data to what's needed to operate the site, and never storing complete payment card numbers ourselves. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain order and purchase records for as long as reasonably necessary for business, tax, and legal purposes. Inquiry messages are retained long enough to respond and for a reasonable period afterward for our records. You may request that we delete personal information we hold about you, subject to our legitimate need to retain certain records (such as completed transaction history).

Your Choices

You can opt out of analytics and advertising cookies at any time on our Your Privacy Choices page (linked at the bottom of every page, at /privacy-choices), which acts as a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" opt-out. We also honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal as an opt-out. You can also block or delete these cookies in your browser settings (see Cookies, above). If you've joined The LBD Field Notes, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email you receive. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by contacting us using the information below. You are not required to create an account to purchase or immediately access a digital guide.

Children's Privacy

This website is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will update the effective date below when we do.
